[Law Amendment] Lower Trademark Fees and Revised Surcharge Criteria for Designated Goods (Effective 2023.08.01)

[Law Amendment] Lower Trademark Fees and Revised Surcharge Criteria for Designated Goods (Effective 2023.08.01)

The amended Rules on the Collection of Patent Fees, etc. take effect on August 1, 2023.

Under the previous rules, the basic fee at the trademark application and registration stages was KRW 56,000 (KRW 62,000 if non-standard goods/services names were included). Under the amended rules, the basic fee is reduced by KRW 10,000 to KRW 46,000 (KRW 52,000 if non-standard names are included).

However, while the basic fee previously covered up to 20 designated goods, it now covers only up to 10.

For example, if 20 items are selected from the KIPO standard goods/services names, the fee was KRW 56,000 under the previous rules but is KRW 66,000 under the amended rules, an increase of KRW 10,000.

The amended rules apply to trademark applications filed on or after 2023.08.01.

It therefore seems advisable to select only the designated goods that are truly necessary, keeping them to 10 or fewer.
