[Law Amendment] Fee Exemptions Limited to 5 Cases per Year (Effective 2024.01.01)

The amended Rules on the Collection of Patent Fees, etc. take effect on August 1, 2023.

For applications filed on or after January 1, 2024, the number of fee-exempt cases is reduced to 5 per year for each type of right.

Persons eligible for exemption from the filing fee, the examination request fee and the patent fees for the first three years include recipients of basic livelihood benefits, persons of national merit, persons with disabilities, elementary, middle and high school students, persons aged 6 or older but under 19, and military service members.

From 2024, even eligible persons may receive exemptions for only up to 5 cases per year for each type of right.
