[Law Amendment] Increase in Patent Examination Request Fees (Effective 2023.08.01)

The amended Rules on the Collection of Patent Fees, etc. take effect on August 1, 2023.

For patent applications filed on or after 2023.08.01., the basic examination request fee increases from KRW 143,000 to KRW 166,000, and the additional fee per claim increases from KRW 44,000 to KRW 51,000.

Before the amendment, an application with 10 claims required total official fees of KRW 188,700 (a filing fee of KRW 13,800 and an examination request fee of KRW 174,900). After the amendment, the total is KRW 216,300 (a filing fee of KRW 13,800 and an examination request fee of KRW 202,800). (Figures assume a 70% fee reduction.)

Although the exact amount depends on the number of claims, an application with 10 to 20 claims will likely see an increase of roughly KRW 30,000 to 50,000 in the examination request fee.
